About the program
Through our customized Coaching Program, we help leaders
- 1. Plan and structure transformative events that will be meaningful and impactful for all participants.
- 2. Learn how to deal with the tension between planning and the need to respond in an improvisational way as things emerge, and
- 3. Be mindful of the scope of what can realistically be accomplished in events considering the constraints, risks, complexity, and other factors.
We help them achieve this by working with them to design and deliver real events while having one of our expert facilitation coaches accompany them every step of the way.
Review
They said about us
“The events were incredibly productive, and they would not have been as successful without the tools and tips we learned from UFacilitate. The UFacilitate coaches presented the background and the theories behind everything we learned and that helped to provide a fuller picture for why meeting design matters. By providing this context for why meetings should be done a certain way, it helped root the learnings in some background in a way that was very thoughtful and different from other consulting programs. I’m really grateful for the opportunity to participate in this process, because in my previous experience organizing a workshop for my staff, I realized I didn't know how to facilitate complex discussions to reach the goals we were trying to achieve. The UFacilitate program opened my eyes to the facilitation skills I didn't know existed -- there's a whole world of facilitation tools that I had never heard of, and the program gave me a little taste of the skills needed to structure and design discussions in a way that's a more effective use of everyone's time and leads to more productive meetings.”

What People Are Saying
"This process was instrumental in helping us transition to virtual facilitation. We became more comfortable with zoom and were challenged to think more critically about the way we designed our agendas. We also learned new strategies to be more effective and engaging while facilitating."

"The new perspective that I was able to take with me into my New Employee Orientation and Onboarding meetings was helpful and made it feel like fresh material, rather than rehashing the same thing I've been doing for years."

“I am a better facilitator as a result of this training, in addition, I am intentionally centering equity in my facilitation methods. I have also learned about additional tools and tips that enable me to hold more equitable conversations.”

"REALLY appreciated Katy and have all amazing things to say. Her calm nature was so helpful because it slowed me down to be more introspective and to think about the full team much better. She shared great resources that we used and was so supportive and generous with her time. I really appreciated each meeting as they were productive; I never felt like we were meeting 'just to meet' but had good productive conversations! 5 stars to Katy all the way!"

"We actually led three events during this time: 1) a racial justice reckoning meeting with all staff with coaching support from Brooking ahead of time, 2) a program planning meeting designed with Brooking, and 3) a fundraising event designed through group office hour session. They were incredibly successful, and I do not think they would have been as successful without the tools and tips we learned from UFacilitate."

"The experience helped me realize the importance of pushing past fears/ insecurities in order to contribute creative and new ideas. We each bring valuable perspectives into these spaces: it's important to trust myself in delivering my thoughts and ideas rather than sitting in the back waiting for other people to take the lead."

“The background and the theories behind everything we learned was presented, making it a full picture. A lot of background was provided about why meetings should be done a certain way; the learning was actually rooted in something.”

"I really liked our coach. We had filled out an assessment form in the beginning, and she was very specific about following up with me on a couple of things that I had listed as concerns. It felt very personalized. It was a good balance between hand-holding and pushing. I really appreciated the objective eyes of our coach on how to structure meetings, and also very specific recommendations that we could incorporate, that we couldn’t have looked up on Google, because we didn’t know they existed."

“I appreciated the coaching support, and also just some of the practical support for engaging people virtually, like working with awkwardness and silence in meetings. That was really helpful. I also liked that post-event meeting that we had with our coach; I think it was really great to have that chance to debrief with her and talk about things that we might change for our next event.”

"I liked all the flexibility with scheduling meetings, and the timeframe for when we can have our event to implement the learnings of the program. This wasn’t the type of training program where it was like 'you’re here for 3 days, drop everything, and you can’t do anything else. So that was helpful."

"I liked how I was able to get ideas from other people in the program. During a group coaching call, one of the other participants said ‘when you’re going into a meeting where you know it’s going to be difficult people, just prepare yourself, just think about it beforehand’. That has really helped me, ever since I had that conversation in a breakout room of the program."

"I’m really grateful for the opportunity to participate in this process, because, a previous experience where I had to organize a meeting for my staff made me realize that I didn’t know how to do it, and that I wasn’t very good at it. So, this program has really given me the skills or at least a little peek into the skills to be more thoughtful about meetings, and start structuring and designing them, and I think it’s been really eye-opening."

"I’m really grateful to have been connected with Mara, she really understood our work, which I think was really helpful. I’m also grateful for the introduction to Liberating Structures, and particularly the 1-2-4-All activity. We’ve already got plans to utilise that for future events, and to dive more into Liberating Structures."

"I’m grateful for the space of the group calls in the program; there is something really nice about being in groups like this, with people from different non-profits, that are working in completely different areas in some cases. So seeing the similar experiences across the different organizations, and hearing that everybody is struggling with similar things, or finding successes in similar ways, is very helpful. I feel like having that community of feeling is just a really nice reassuring thing."
